#14 Roshon Roomes | From Walk-On to NCAA Record Breaker

Roshon Roomes is a student athlete and industrial engineering student at Iowa State University. If there was ever an underdog story in running, it would be Roshon's story. He didn't even receive an athletic scholarship from Iowa State out of high school, instead he came in as a regular student and was a part of the student's running club for a year before the coaches allowed him to walk on. Fast forward to now, where Roshon has broken the NCAA record in the 600 yard run and is one of the best in the nation for the 800m run. And although he wasn't a prodigy in high school, he is now a 3 time Big 12 Champion and a 6 time All-American! In this episode, Roshon talks about his journey as a runner as well as an engineer.

About the Podcast

In The Hilla
In The Hilla (الحلة‎ - Neighborhood)
A podcast that educates people from marginalized communities about different career avenues.

When I originally had the idea for my podcast, I was thinking of issues within my community. It is rare to see engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, and equity owners in low income neighborhoods. At the end of the day people are a product of their environment and you can't be what you can't see. Therefore, I created this podcast to serve as an example. Through this platform, I hope to educate people about the different avenues that exist. And more importantly, break down how it was done as well as identify the challenges that can be expected.

I started doing interviews for my podcast back in April and started posting content on July 2020.

Thank you for tuning in!
